Just
wanted to send you an e-mail and let you know that Titanic: A Voyage
of Discovery and the accompanying Screen Saver CD are fantastic! I have
been exploring both since I received them. These are great! I can't
see how anyone who is the least bit interested in the Titanic could
go without these two excellent resources of information (and especially
breathtaking photographs). I want to thank you for all of your assistance
during the time that I was inquiring about system requirements, etc.
of these two CD's. Also, on behalf of all the other Titanic buffs around
the world with myself, thanks for producing such a single full-packed
source of photos and facts as these two CD's.
Library Journal - USA.
Interest in the Titanic has never been greater, with a
Broadway musical and feature film bringing the tragic ocean liner's
fate into mainstream focus yet again. There have been other Titanic
CD-ROMs (i.e., Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, LJ 5/15/97), but this
disc contains much more information--including 600 photos and 50 video
clips--enough to satisfy even the most fact-voracious Titanic obsessive.
The information is divided into four sections: Model (an interactive
plan of the ship that includes photos and narration), Construction (showing
the structure and appointments of the luxury liner in detail), Wreck
(with many images taken from the numerous dives during the French/American
recovery expedition of 1987), and Lists (of passengers, etc.). An initial
approach to the disc will probably be linear, but we found it irresistible
to jump from section to section, anticipating information foreshadowed
by events and facts. The photos are a bit murky at times, but this enhances
rather than detracts from the mise-en-sc&ecute;ne, setting an appropriate
mood for exploring the Titanic. Bottom Line: Highly recommended for
public and academic libraries; an essential addition to collections
of Titanic history enthusiasts.

This CD ROM is slow to load, a little confusing to navigate,
but truly amazing! The photographs are of an amazing quality, the narration
by maritime historian Charles Sachs and explorer Ralph White - who has
visited the wreck site 19 times since 1985 - are short, concise, and
to the point, allowing you to soak in the images. The background music
is superb, a combination of classics, Wagnerian opera, and pieces contemporaneous
to the time of the sinking. The instrumentation is rich and deep, taking
full advantage of the compact disc format. I also received the Titanic
Historic Documentary & Screen Saver compact disc. Two hours after opening
the package, I was still pointing-and-clicking my way through images.
A wonderful package, and well worth the cost, if only for the undersea
images alone. My one problem with the Discovery CD deals not with the
disc itself, but rather with ideology. All the items shown resting on
the bottom, richly detailed photographs, were taken just prior to their
retrieval by White and his team, for "restoration" and "display" on
the surface.

If ever the past has journeyed into the future, it is
with the CD-Rom, Titanic A Voyage of Discovery. The most important thing
is to learn from history is its mistakes and its gifts, and this is
what this cd-rom shows us from all aspects. Not only from the sinking,
the loss of life, not nearly enough life boats and the aftermath, but
the Titanic's new era, her discovery! It takes three hours in the Mir
to reach the Titanic. This marvelous feature of this cd is one of my
favourite. Sailing over and around the Titanic in this small submarine
is very eerie and the closest thing to virtual reality. How a terrorising
end can now look so peaceful, china tea cups, suitcases and wine bottles
untouched since the night of April 15th 1912. Another very interesting
section shows the rare photos and film footage, especially on Captain
Smith. Graceful music once played on the ship follows you looking through
the many areas of the cd. This is a brilliant second volume on the Titanic,
every effort such as digitally restoring photographs has been done,
which is sure to impress the most knowledgeable maritime buff. Tara.

This testimonial has been amended due to its most thorough
review. A full version can be viewed by going to Nic's Titanic Page.
Just click on Nic's picture Upon examination it is obvious that this
disc has been authored with Macromedia, I have come to really respect
this authoring package, especially from a users point of view. The interface
is easy to use very responsive and a pleasure to navigate. I am not
easy to please in this area, as professionally I am an interactive CD
author and I expect a great deal from products similar to the ones I
author myself. From a navigation point of the view the CD performed
flawlessly and was a delight to use. Upon launching the CD I was greeted
with a screen informing me that the CD was designed for 256 Colours
and asking if I wanted to continue. This screen does not occur if your
screen depth is already set to 256 colours. Mine is normally set to
65000 colours. I found that the disc performed flawlessly even though
I left my screen depth to 16 bit or 65000 colours. After a brief intro
of the Titanic name being embossed into what I can only describe as
a brown steel plate, I was presented with a photograph of Charles Sachs
and a voice introduction from him, followed by a photograph and introduction
from Ralph White. After these introductions, I was presented with a
main menu. The menu is a graphical point and click type with highlighting
areas activated by mouse movement. The choices were, Construction, Voyage,
Model, Lists and Wreck. Firstly I chose the "Wreck" option. This option
presents you with another menu that has split up the various wreck photographs
into different areas such as bow, stern, surface, artifacts and debris
field. As soon as I started looking at the photographs and attached
videos in this section I immediately was covered in goose bumps and
it was not the images that did it. Amazingly the author has chosen Largo
from a New World Symphony by Antonin Dvorak as the background music.
I thoroughly enjoyed touring the wreck via the photos and videos and
especially liked the way I could choose to see the exact area I was
looking at via a deck plan. When looking at the wreck videos or photographs
it is sometimes difficult or orientate yourself, even one who knows
this ship so well can have trouble, this option makes it very easy to
place each picture exactly. A picture of a Titanic model is included,
zoomed on the particular area with red arrows showing you the route
the video will take. I toured each of the other menus items one by one,
both manually and automatically, and each were just as enjoyable. Some
of the photographs I had never seen before and it was a delight to see
them and have them explained on the commentary. I especially liked the
tour of the model of the ship and way you could compare parts of the
ship with photographs side by side. As I enjoy all aspects of this subject
I find it sometimes difficult to be a critic and give a fair review,
but in comparison to all of the Titanic books, discs and memorabilia
I have seen on the subject. In conclusion I can only say that I thoroughly
enjoyed the many hours I spent looking at this disc, It takes pride
of place among my other Titanic discs and collections. I wholly recommend
this disc, as a valuable source of reference for any student and a must
have for any Titanic memorabilia collector. Nic Wilson

Titanic - A Voyage of Discovery and it 's partner The
Titanic Historic Documentary and Screen Saver are in my opinion the
Ultimate CD ROM collection for the Titanic Enthusiasts. I am still exploring
the two CD Roms and I am really enjoying them. These two CD Roms will
be the Benchmark that other CDs will be compared with for years to come.

Kudos
to you on an exceptional job. The CD is very good. Navigation is easily
learned and straightforward. Content is amazing, and commentary is informative.
You truly have captured Titanic in many hard to find images. Being a
collector of Titanic images, I was amazed to find many on your CD that
I hadn't seen before, as well as some I have showing more detail than
my copies. I should think you will have no problems with the marketing
of "Voyage of Discovery" because I feel any Titanic aficionado would
love to have this added to their collection.. Again thanks.....
