Titanic Construction
This section contains a huge volume of the more intricate
technical aspects of the construction and outfitting of the Titanic.
Divided into Titanic's Early Construction, Titanic's Late
Construction and Titanic's Appointments, has meant that specific phases
and individual aspects of the ship may be viewed in a chronological
presentation.
Titanic's
Early Construction
This division of the section traces the massive task of
building the Titanic from the laying of her keel through to the launch
of the Olympic. This screen shot shows the Titanic and her sister ship,
the Olympic side by side in the Belfast construction docks at Harland
and Wolf. The Olympic is made ready for launch whilst her sister has
just been fully framed.
Titanic's
Late Construction
This division is concerned with the latter stages of construction,
culminating in a spectacular though un-ceremonious launch. Also included
are rare glimpses of final construction in the graving dock. The screen
shot to the right depicts the massive size of the Titanic's propellers
as the are being installed in the graving dock. This photograph would
not have been available for public appreciation had it not been for
the painstaking hours spent, using sophisticated computer imaging technology,
repairing the severely damaged original print.
Titanic's
Appointments
The glory and spendour which typifies this grand era,
dubbed the "gilded era", is eloquently displayed in the magnificent
appointments to so many areas of the Titanic's public entertainment
areas and cabins. On your voyage of discovery, you will take great pleasure
in visiting a number of stunningly appointed area on board, such as
the Cafe Parisian, which is shown to the right.
